Label the working version
Give the song a working title and attach a date or simple version number. Mark the verse, chorus, and any optional bridge so readers understand the structure. Add a short note about the narrator, mood, and unresolved choice. For example: “The speaker is leaving, not asking to return; the final chorus still feels too forgiving.” If a melody exists, explain which lines must fit it. Keep private names or sensitive details out of the shared draft unless sharing them is appropriate.
Ask questions that invite decisions
Request feedback on two or three issues rather than asking whether everything works. Try: which image do you remember, where does the speaker’s intention become unclear, and which line is difficult to sing? Separate wording suggestions from structural changes. If one person wants a hopeful ending and another wants a bitter one, return to the brief before combining their edits. Keep rejected alternatives in a separate note so the working lyric remains readable.
Record what changed and why
After discussion, save a new version and summarize the decisions in a few sentences. Note which contributions came from collaborators and which passages began as generated suggestions. Discuss credits and intended use together instead of treating an AI draft as automatically cleared material. Keep your own copy of important work even when an app saves drafts. Before a public release, review the wording and applicable terms; neither an automatic save nor a successful export guarantees originality or permission. The immediate goal is a clear next draft, not a premature declaration that the song is finished.
